Program Aims
Graduating Exceptional Behavioral Health Professionals
The Psychiatry Residency Program seeks to extend the mission of Elk Ridge Community Health by training residents to provide accessible, comprehensive, high quality, affordable care to a diverse population across northern Arizona in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Our community-based residency will train psychiatric physicians to develop the clinical and leadership expertise needed to address a broad range of unmet mental health needs in northern Arizona.
Our Guiding Values
- We shall address our regional workforce shortage of psychiatrists by establishing the first psychiatry residency program in the entire northern half of Arizona.
- We shall train psychiatrists to serve all mental health patient populations in our region, including community mental health, hospital-based acute care, Native American health services, Veterans Administration health services, and outpatient care for the general population.
- We shall train psychiatrists to provide collaborative and team-based service delivery. In every rotation offered, we will emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration with healthcare professionals and social services to meet patient needs effectively.
- We shall cultivate a spirit of inquiry and scholarship, training residents to improve patient care through both evidence-based practice and locally relevant research initiatives.
Teaching Location
Elk Ridge Community Health’s Flagstaff 4th Street location is the main teaching site of the pychiatry residency program. With its diverse patient population, it is an ideal setting for learning, coupled with a full service pharmacy, a dental practice, and laboratory services.
